The Heroes Among Us program is one of the premier community outreach programs in professional sports. Established as an initiative of the Boston Celtics in 1997, Heroes Among Us honors individuals who have made an overwhelming impact on the lives of others.
In March of 2007, Stefan Nathanson, founder and president of Room to Dream Foundation was honored with the Heroes Among Us Award.
“Stefan is the founder of The Room to Dream Foundation – a local charity whose mission is to create healing environments for children facing chronic and debilitating illnesses. The hope is that with an “extreme makeover” of the child’s bedroom, it will improve their quality of life, promote strength, self-worth, and aid in the recovery process.
Founded just last year, the foundation has incredibly received over $500,000 in goods and services. Every renovation is tailored to the specific needs of the child. Through volunteers that include architects, interior decorators, and builders, the Foundation gives children the room to dream for a healthier future.
