Gavin’s Project

Gavin requested a place to sit when he was feeling ill from treatments, other than his bed. So we built in a bench along the window and flanked each side with a desk for each boy, shelves above to display their many accolades. Gavin was very active in sports prior to his diagnosis. It was such an honor to create a space where he and his brother Justin can hang out, relax, do homework, and make memories.

Older brother Sean lives next door. He shares the same likes as his younger brothers; sports, the color blue, but requested a more mature room where he too could hang out and study. We covered a wall in chalkboard paint and gave him a counter height desk and drafting chair to create an almost a coffee shop environment. Instead of nightstands we centered his bed between to metal shelving units, to allow him to display his own typical teenager collections.

Seeing the boys’ faces when they walked into their new space was definitely a highlight of my career as a designer.
